Easter 2016 - Egg Hunters

Easter 2016 - Egg Hunters!

Welcome to another Seasonal Event for our gaming project, Warsurge. This time we have a 3 Player Mission between the Stormcast Eternals (Age of Sigmar) against a Slaanesh warband (Warhammer 40,000) and also an army of deadly Easter chicks lead by an Easter Bunny!

Free E-Book
Also, it's slow progress, but there is a free e-book I'm working on. You can sign up here to reserve it. Talks about a bunch of things related to war gaming, both socially, in-game and even suggestions for campaigns among other things!

The Factions

There were three factions: each army had 750pts to spend in this game:

The Order
Represented as Stormcast Eternals, The Order is dedicated to their own secret agenda. On the battlefield they are righteous and powerful, clad in armour and augmented with rigorous training, and perhaps more... their great size hints that even genetic manipulation is at hand here.

Slaanesh Warband
These Chaos Space Marines are dedicated to the chaos god Slaanesh, and are lead by Lucius the Eternal. As to why they came... it must have something to do with their pursuit of pleasure and perfection. Among their number is a Flesh Beast, some kind of spawn of darkness with many tentacles.
The vile bunny is watching...

Easter Bunny Forces
What kind of Easter Battle would it be without an Easter Bunny? Leading an army of deadly chicks, he was out to get back some of those eggs and defeat any non-believers on the way.

The Battlefield
The battlefield was essentially a forest... but more so like a child's Easter egg hunt, as there were many chocolate eggs strewn across the land.

Deployment
The game was 750points, and had a 3 Player Deployment as follows:

The Slaanesh Player went with Zone A, Stormcast Eternals (The Order) went to Zone B, and the Easter Bunny Forces went to Zone C. Zone C is larger, as it can be more awkward to navigate between the other two players.

Victory Conditions
There were two goals in this mission, judged separately from each other: Egg Hunter and 'Slay and Survive'

Egg Hunter was where players with the most Egg Points (or simply, eggs!) collected would be the winner in that field.

Get Egg Points!

There was also the humble 'Slay and Survive' condition - where the player with the most forces remaining would win in that category.

Defeat enemies and preserve your forces!

Turn 1

Turn 1 was mostly for tactical placement and collecting eggs! All three factions had brought a unit that could move quickly, and these were great for grabbing the eggs.

The Slaanesh Player had the most ranged weapons, firing a few shots but not really inflicting any major damage.

The Order faction had no ranged weapons whatsoever, so they collected eggs and prepared for some melee against the Easter Bunny's minions. The chicks were no pushover however, they had a chance of inflicting critical hits, which would bypass armour saves.

The Easter Bunny had egg bombs and laser eyes, so no one was truly safe from it. It's melee attacks were arguably weaker than the chick minions however.

The leader of The Order charged into combat against some chicks. He was a truly mighty warrior, but the chicks were ready for a fight and delivered an unusually high amount of critical hits, wounding the leader. However, his hammer managed to hurt them too!

The Rhino Tank surged onward and collected eggs, but the chicks noticed and wanted to peck it apart.

Within the first Turn, the Slaanesh Flesh Beast managed to take down a knight, but his comrades managed to slay the foul beast. Blood had been spilled!

The Noise Marines had managed to harm the Easter Bunny, taking 1 HP off of him.

Also during the turn, the Chaos Dreadnought took a pot shot at some knights, but didn't inflict any damage - the Cover and AEGIS of these warriors proved true!

Turn 2

By Turn 2, the Slaanesh Player had already lost one of their units, though the other two factions had also received damage. At this point, the Slaanesh and Easter Bunny had more eggs than The Order, but the game was by no means over by a long shot.

Chicks were closing in on Noise Marines. They attempted to shoot them down a little this turn, but after another turn or so, they would be engaged at close quarters.

During this turn, several close combats continued, more shots were fired by the Noise Marines and Lucius himself made his appearance with his bodyguard... the time for him to fight had come, as the chicks were relentless in their pursuit. Seems these chicks were highly territorial, bloodthirsty birds. Both The Order and Lucius' warband had their hands full.

The Easter Bunny was lobbing egg bombs on Noise Marines and attacked the Rhino Tank in melee range. The Rhino was a valuable tool for collecting eggs, especially with the loss of the Slaaneshi Flesh Beast. This didn't bode well for the Rhino, but it did survive the melee.

The Order had set their eyes upon the Chaos Dreadnought. It would be tough to attack, but they were somewhat evenly matched. The Multi-Melta finished off a damaged knight (the Flesh Beast had hurt him the turn before), but melee would determine the victor over the next few turns...

Lucius was good for the fight, he and his warband managed to take down some chicks, but their pecks were felling Lucius' bodyguards as well.

Some Order Knights had also engaged some chicks this turn.

Turns 3-5

Turns 3-5 was where the bulk of the game was resolved, where Turn 2 essentially set the stage for the events that occurred here.

Eggs weren't being collected so much in these turns, but a lot of melee took place, with a pinch of ranged (mainly from the Easter Bunny.

Over these turns, the main warlord of The Order fell in battle against the chicks, all but taking them down with him. The knights nearby fared quite well, defeating a unit of chicks, which really showed how unlucky the mounted warlord had been. The knights avenged their leader in time though!

The Slaanesh Player over these turns lost almost everything they had. The chicks defeated his Noise Marines and defeated Lucius bodyguard, even threatening the champion of Slaanesh himself. The Rhino Tank was mercilessly attacked in the rear by the Easter Bunny - due to their respective Movement speeds, there was really no escape for the transport vehicle.

The Chaos Dreadnought was fighting against a lieutenant of The Order and a knight bodyguard. Though blows had been dealt to each other, a stray shot from the Easter Bunny's eye laser tipped the battle into the favour of the Stormcast Eternals - they managed to finish the abominable beast of flesh and metal just before the end of Turn 5.
Laser eyes are on target...

At the end of Turn 5, the dice roll for the random game length resulted in the game continuing into Turn 6.

Turn 6

By Turn 6, there were very few models left - for all the players in fact!

There were only a few chicks left fighting Lucius. He finished them off (unscathed) this turn.

The Order had already finished off their chicks on the previous turn, allowing them to hastily collect a few more eggs, which bumped them in front of the Slaanesh Player.

The Easter Bunny collected a couple more eggs, preparing to get some more should the game continue.

Lucius was hoping to pursue and defeat the Easter Bunny, but that would be a challenge given the difference in Movement distance. Also, the random game turn roll failed, so it was the end of the game! Maybe next time Lucius...

Evil! Evil Easter Bunny! Look at it holding back it's laughter...

Results

Okay, so after the battle ended (was pretty quick and bloody), the results were as follows:

Egg Points
1st) Easter Bunny: 20 Eggs
2nd) The Order: 17 Eggs
3rd) Slaanesh Warband: 14 Eggs

The Easter Bunny won in this department!

Fitting, considering he delivers them... or makes them?

Slay and Survive
1st) The Order: 26-50% Army Value Remaining
Equal 2nd) Easter Bunny: 1-25% Army Value Remaining
Equal 2nd) The Order: 1-25% Army Value Remaining

The Order had proved their might in this game, having fought off foes and coming out the strongest.

The survivors rally with their hard won loot.

Lucius gets to keep it all for himself - he's the only survivor!

The Slaanesh Player didn't really get to shine in this game, but he thoroughly enjoyed it along with everyone else! Was a super fun game indeed.

And that's it! Hope you enjoyed the game, and feel free to like our Facebook Page or reserve the Free E-Book.
